Pushing Forward

Politics, Social Conflict, and the Racial Divide in the Art of Kevin Cole

The Arts Program at UMGC invites you to meet renowned artist Kevin Cole at the opening reception of Pushing Forward: Politics, Social Conflict, and the Racial Divide in the Art of Kevin Cole. This new exhibition features approximately 50 of Cole’s engaging works, which explore the lives of African Americans in the United States. A member of the famed AfriCOBRA (African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists) collective, Cole addresses topics such as lynching, voting rights, and religion through African design elements in his mixed-media and sculptural pieces.

Cole, who earned his MFA at Northern Illinois University, and Melanee Harvey, PhD, associate professor at Howard University, will discuss the artist’s body of work and career, which has spanned more than 40 years.
