University of Maryland Global Campus actively subscribes to a policy of equal employment opportunity and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant because of race, age, sex, color, physical or mental disability, religion, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, or political affiliation.
In an effort to provide a sensitive and proactive organization, UMGC has established the Fair Practices and Compliance Unit, which is composed of a Fair Practices Officer and three Equal Opportunity Officers (U.S., UMGC Asia, and UMGC Europe). The unit is responsible for receiving discrimination complaints and for the timely processing and resolution of such complaints.
The Fair Practices Officer is responsible for UMGC's global oversight of and inquiries into potential employment discrimination, harassment, and other forms of unlawful discrimination. This includes responsibility for Federal and state regulatory and statutory compliance efforts. To report claims of harassment or unlawful discrimination, request mediation or confidential discussion, please see the contact information on this page.
Religious Discrimination and Reasonable Accommodation
The law requires a covered entity to reasonably accommodate a student or an employee's religious beliefs or practices, unless doing so would cause more than a minimal burden on the operations of the employer's business. This means an employer may be required to make reasonable adjustments to the classroom requirements or attendance and work environment that will allow a student and/or employee to practice his or her religion. In keeping with EEOC State of Maryland, and University System of Maryland requirements, the Fair Practices and Compliance Unit manages the request for academic exemption or reasonable accommodation for UMGC students and employees. To make a request, contact firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com, or 301-985-7955.
- UMGC Quiet Room (Meditation and/or Prayer): UMGC Students and employees may request the use of a "quiet room" to meditate or for the purposes of religious observances. Students and employees are required to abide by the guidelines of the use of the room. To request the use of the quiet room, contact firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Compliance Training and Professional Development: To request compliance training, contact email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
- LGBT Update: Gender identity protections took effect on October 1, 2014 in the state of Maryland. For questions relating to LGBT protection or to file a discrimination charge, contact email@example.com.
