Is UMGC an accredited university? +

UMGC is accredited and adheres to standards set by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. UMGC is one of the 12 member institutions of the renowned University System of Maryland.

What academic programs does UMGC offer? +

UMGC offers more than 90 degrees, specializations, and certificates, most available entirely online, nearly all of which are available entirely online. These include undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs in business and management, cybersecurity, data analytics, education and teaching, healthcare and science, information technology and computer science, liberal arts and communication, and public safety.

Can a UMGC education fit my lifestyle? +

With online and hybrid classes as well as rolling admission and multiple start dates each term, we make it easy to fit education into your life. Plus, we offer flexible transfer credit options and fast paths to credit, including credit for military experience, prior learning, and learning on the job.

What UMGC degrees are available to me online? +

Nearly all of UMGC's programs are available fully online. Select programs require some hybrid courses or an on-site residency. Programs that require an on-site component have those requirements clearly listed on the degree webpage and in the catalog.

What is a hybrid course? +

Hybrid courses blend online learning with on-site classroom interaction. Each course meets at least half of the time in person, so you can benefit from personal time with your instructor and classmates.

What are UMGC's admissions requirements for bachelor's degree programs? +

To enroll in a bachelor's degree program, you must have graduated high school or passed the GED exam. Because we value your professional experience, most of our programs do not require standardized tests like the SAT or ACT.

What are UMGC's admission requirements for master's degrees and other graduate programs? +

For most programs, you can enroll in and begin earning your first 6 credits at UMGC as long as you submit an official transcript(s) demonstrating completion of a bachelor's degree by the last day of the first term of enrollment at UMGC. Some exceptions apply. See graduate admissions for more information.

How much is UMGC's application fee? +

The nonrefundable application fee for a bachelor's or master's program is $50 , while the fee for a doctoral degree program is $100.

I'm having trouble with the online new student application. Where can I go for help? +

Contact an admissions advisor for help with the admissions process or to walk through the online application together.

I am interested in changing careers. Can I apply to a graduate degree in a field that's different from my undergraduate degree? +

At UMGC, we welcome and encourage students from various undergraduate programs to apply to our graduate programs. However, depending on which graduate program you choose, you may have to meet certain prerequisites prior to starting your coursework. Contact an admissions advisor for more information.

How many credits can I transfer? +

Whether you've taken classes at a community college or a four-year school, learned on the job or through military experience, we'll help you transfer credits. You can transfer up to 90 credits from a four-year university or up to 70 credits from a two-year college toward an undergraduate program.

How can I transfer my credit to UMGC? +

You are required to have official copies of transcripts sent to UMGC from all institutions you have attended. In some cases, we can ask for additional documentation, such as a syllabus and/or course description, to evaluate credit for possible transfer. Note that if you have taken exams (CLEP/DSST/ACT/PEP/Excelsior), your score report is required to complete an official evaluation.
