If you're a St. Mary's County Public Schools employee, you can take online courses thanks to an education alliance with University of Maryland Global Campus, a leader in online education for working adults. UMGC will bill SMCPS directly for your approved coursework.

AAQEP Accreditation (MAT & MEd)

University of Maryland Global Campus is a member in good standing of the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP), a national accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The Master of Arts in Teaching and Master of Education in Instructional Technology have been awarded full accreditation by AAQEP through June 30, 2029. Full accreditation acknowledges that a program prepares effective educators who continue to grow as professionals and has demonstrated the commitment and capacity to maintain quality.

It’s easy to get started. Whether you're focused on advancing your career or continuing your education, UMGC offers the ideal program to help you reach your goal.

Request approval from SMCPS: SMCPS employees enrolled in courses through Direct Pay agreements must submit for approval to their Department of Human Resources prior to registration. This may be completed by logging in to the Tuition Reimbursement and Credential Center.

Apply for admission to UMGC: Complete the online application for admission. It typically takes about 10 minutes. Be sure to select your employer or organization on the application form.

Submit your direct billing info to UMGC: Complete and submit a student records release form.

Earn credit for your education and eligible experience: Submit your official transcripts from any previous institutions of higher education.

Register for classes: Once you're admitted to UMGC, you will receive a student ID (EmplID) so you can register for courses online. Check the schedule of classes to view courses, and then register for classes online using the MyUMGC Student Portal.
