Career fairs are a wonderful way to identify career opportunities, but the work does not stop once they're over. After making valuable connections at the UMGC Virtual Career Fair, it's crucial to maintain momentum. Here are some tips to enhance your prospects:
Express Gratitude
- Promptly send thank-you messages to recruiters you interacted with to express your appreciation for their time and reiterate key discussion points.
- Articulate your interest in further communication, such as applying for specific roles or staying updated on opportunities.
Complete Applications
- Ensure that you complete online applications as per the employer's process.
- Tailor your application to align with specific job requirements.
- Consider incorporating a quick reference within your cover letter to your interaction with the recruiter during the Virtual Career Fair.
Follow-Up with Recruiters
- Politely follow up with recruiters if you have not heard from them within a reasonable timeframe (around three to four weeks) to inquire about the status of your application.
- Once again convey your enthusiasm for the opportunity and thank them for their time.
- To get a better idea of the potential timeline, you can seek clarification on the hiring decision deadline.
Prepare for Your Interviews
- Refine your interview readiness with VMock’s Interview Prep tools. These modules use artificial intelligence to provide instant feedback on the content strength of your responses, body language, eye contact, and voice quality.
- Determine the skills, accomplishments, and experiences you want to highlight in any upcoming interviews.
- Double check with the job requirements that your responses remain relevant to the job you are applying to have.
Remember, it is important to remain prepared and organized while on the job hunt! Whenever you require support, UMGC’s Office of Career Services will be there to assist you with the tools and resources available through CareerQuest.
