Earn Credit for Public Health, Safety,
& Emergency Management Certifications

At University of Maryland Global Campus, we believe in giving our students something tangible for their previous accomplishments. That’s why we’re proud to offer you real course credit if you’ve earned one or more public safety or emergency management certifications. These certifications test your mastery of crucial, career-relevant skills, including management ability, clinical judgment, and disaster response. In addition, the skills you've learned are universal and map neatly to existing UMGC coursework—so why not get course credit for your efforts? We recognize many industry-leading certifications, including Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Associate Emergency Manager (AEM), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

These course credits may help you move faster through a variety of our programs, including our bachelor’s degree in public safety administration, master’s degree in management concentration in emergency management, and minor in emergency management. Whether you wish to pursue a career in the private sector or work for a government agency such as FEMA, you’ll be able to get a head start on your program requirements and save valuable time and money as you earn your degree.

Submit a Request for Credit

If you have one or more of these certifications, you must submit official documentation from the certifying organization (such as a certificate, verification code, or letter) which includes your name, the title of the certification, and the date(s) of the certification. Send this documentation to studentrecords@umgc.edu after you apply to UMGC.

Upon receipt, UMGC will assess whether the certification can be applied to your program (based on all other sources of credit you earn) and, if so, how it will be applied (major coursework, elective, or other). If UMGC does not receive the appropriate documentation, we will not be able to evaluate credit and its applicability to your degree or certificate program.
