University of Maryland University College to Host Summit on Learner Analytics in Higher Education, July 21-23

Adelphi, Md. (July 16, 2014) In today's world of big data and the growing use of analytics in higher education, the University of Maryland University College's Center for Innovation in Learning and Student Success is convening a summit of more than 200 invitees from select universities, community colleges, national organizations, government agencies and companies active in data analytics to discuss the use of analytics to help students successfully transfer from community college to four-year institutions.

The goal of the conference is to create a community that studies and improves these pathways for students and enables the creation of tangible and concrete interventions for students based on findings from learner analytics research.

Hosted by: University of Maryland University College with funding from the Kresge Foundation

In addition to a keynote address by Mark David Milliron, entitled The Rise of Student Success Scientists: Using Insight and Action Analytics to Help Students Learn Well and Finish Strong, sessions cover areas such as building capacity for learner analytics; ethics in an educational age of learning analytics; approaches to predicting college student success; and building an analytics driven university.

UMUC will disseminate highlights, issues and effective interventions from the conference in a special publication that will be distributed to attendees as well as other interested audiences following the summit.

In addition to the publication, UMUC's Center for Innovation in Learning and Student Success will create a set of online resources that promote effective interventions for student success.

And UMUC will also continue the dialogue and dissemination of continued best practices through its alliances with multiple organizations, including the Predictive Analytics Research (PAR) Framework, Online Learning Consortium annual conference, and as an EDUCAUSE NextGeneration Breakthrough Model Incubator.
