Panel Discussion to Feature Experts from UMUC, Schneider Electric, and TeleCommunication Systems, Inc.

WHO: University of Maryland University College (UMUC) will hold a panel discussion and networking event for servicemembers interested in cyber security careers and/or education programs.

WHAT: Cyber security careers panel discussion featuring cyber security industry and academic representatives, including:

  • Jack McCauley, Schneider Electric
  • Christina Majernik, TeleCommunications Systems, Inc.
  • Balakrishnan Dasarathy, chair of the information assurance graduate program at UMUC
  • James Roberts, chair of the computer science and software development and security undergraduate programs at UMUC

The panel discussion will be followed by an information session about UMUC Cybersecurity degree programs and certificates and networking opportunities.

BACKGROUND:

More than half of UMUC's students are active-duty military personnel, their spouses and dependents, and veterans. Since launching online degree programs in cyber security in 2010, UMUC has produced more than 3,000 graduates with cyber-related degrees and now has more than 8,000 people enrolled in cyber-related programs.

UMUC offers undergraduate degrees in Cybersecurity Management and Policy, Computer Networks and Cybersecurity, and Software Development and Security. Graduate degrees are offered in Cybersecurity, Cybersecurity Policy, Digital Forensics and Cyber Investigation, and Information Technology with a specialization in Information Assurance.

UMUC's cyber competition team, made up of students, faculty, and staff, won the 2014 Global CyberLympics in Barcelona, Spain. They will defend their title at the 2015 Global CyberLympics, to be held in Washington, D.C., in October.

UMUC has a deep and proud 65-year history providing higher education to the military and veterans overseas and stateside. UMUC was the first university to send faculty overseas to teach active-duty military personnel on bases in Europe in 1947. It began sending faculty to bases in Asia in 1956.
