Cybersecurity Technology Graduate Program Wins Top Award from SC Magazine
Adelphi, Md. – March 14, 2019 – University of Maryland University College (UMUC), for the second straight year, has announced that its Cybersecurity Technology graduate program has won the Professional Award for Best Cybersecurity Program in Higher Education by SC Magazine. The award was presented on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, during the 23rd annual SC Media Awards gala in San Francisco.“This honor is a testament to our commitment to academic excellence, diversity and real-world problem solving,” said Mansur Hasib, program chair, Cybersecurity Technology at UMUC. “Our students represent a wide spectrum of backgrounds and interests, which is a key to the success of our program’s focus on preparing students to lead cybersecurity teams. UMUC has fully embraced this philosophy, which I believe is among the driving reasons the university was chosen for the second consecutive year as the winner in the higher education category.”
The 2019 program featured more than 500 total entries for the 33 awards given out, the highest number of entries in the 23-year history of the event. Individuals, schools and programs selected as winners in the Professional Award categories were run through a rigorous judging process that included testimonials, industry assessments and additional research. Winners in the Professional Award categories were selected by a panel of judges for their outstanding service, qualifications and advancements to the cybersecurity industry.
“The Professional Award category of the SC Awards highlights those companies, individuals and programs that go above and beyond the call as they seek to defend sensitive data from cyber threats and educate the industry on best practices,” said Illena Armstrong, vice president, editorial, SC Media. “UMUC has set an example that its peers should aspire to emulate.”
The SC Awards are recognized throughout the cybersecurity industry and are the crowning achievement for IT security professionals and products. Each year, hundreds of applications are reviewed and narrowed down to a select group of finalists that represent the best solutions and services, and professionals working around the clock to protect today’s businesses from an ever-changing landscape of security threats.
