Adelphi, Md. (Sept. 22, 2023)—University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) and College of Southern Maryland (CSM) this week held a signing ceremony to recognize the recently renewed transfer partnership between the two institutions. CSM, with four campuses in Southern Maryland, is one of UMGC’s largest transfer partners while being the six-largest community college in Maryland.

The partnership enables CSM’s students to transfer credits seamlessly and earn a bachelor’s degree at a discounted tuition rate. In 2022, nearly 1,800 students transferred from CSM to UMGC, and 337 degrees were conferred by UMGC to students who came from CSM.

“We are proud to be connected with the College of Southern Maryland through this partnership and in a number of other ways that ultimately help students reach their educational goals,” said Greg Fowler, president of UMGC who participated in the signing ceremony with CSM President Yolanda Wilson. “With a physical presence on the CSM campus in LaPlata, we are like family. We share the same commitment to provide learning experiences that students need to move forward in the workforce.”

CSM and UMGC also share a commitment to serving military service members and their families. CSM is the sixth largest military and veteran-serving college in Maryland. In 2022, Military Times ranked UMGC as No. 1 Best for Vets in Primarily Online Education. Of the 1,799 students who transferred to UMGC from CSM in 2022, 484 were military affiliated.

“We are thrilled to work closely with UMGC to create seamless transfer pathways for our students,” said CSM President Dr. Yolanda Wilson. “We know that UMGC joins us in our commitment to remove unnecessary barriers to progression and completion, so students can have both flexibility and support while pursuing their career goals. By renewing our transfer partnership, our institutions remain steadfast in our intent to deliver what our students need and want, and what our labor market needs and wants – not just now – but also in the future.”

Under the agreement, each CSM student who completes an associate degree receives guaranteed admission into a UMGC bachelor’s degree program in a complementary field of study. Associate degree recipients can also earn their bachelor’s degree at a reduced cost with the Completion Scholarship as a Maryland resident.

Employees, spouses, and dependents of CSM are also eligible for UMGC educational benefits, tuition discounts and a waived application fee.

In addition to the main campus in LaPlata, CSM operates the Regional Hughesville Campus in Charles County, Prince Frederick Campus in Calvert County, and Leonardtown Campus in St. Mary’s County.
