Adelphi, Md. (Jan. 31, 2024)--The International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council), a global cybersecurity technical certification body, has recognized University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) with its 2023 Academic Partner of the Year Award.
The award is the highest honor within the EC-Council Academic community and cybersecurity communities.
“The values and criteria of the selection process directly reflect the mission of preparing students for EC-Council certifications, graduation and the workforce,’ said Dr. Calvin Nobles, vice president and dean of UMGC's School of Cybersecurity and Information Technology. “The noteworthy quantity of UMGC students actively pursuing EC-Council certifications stands as a testament to our unwavering dedication to equipping students with the skills most esteemed by prospective employers.”
The Partner of the Year distinction, issued to only one academic institution each year, highlights schools and faculty within North America and around the world that excel by bringing lasting impact to their students’ cybersecurity education and their local communities.
“Our partnership with UMGC and the level of engagement for positive student outcomes continues to grow year over year,” said Wesley Alvarez, Director of Academics at EC-Council. “UMGC programs have produced some of the highest amounts of EC-Council certified members across several certifications, including two of EC-Council’s U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) approved credentials.”
With over 1,000 academic partners, the EC-Council organizes annual awards to highlight the highest levels of cybersecurity education, training, executive leadership and instruction globally. The E-C Council community consists of partnered academic institutions, academic faculty, commercial training centers, corporate organizations, chief information security officers and Certified EC-Council Instructors (CEIs).
UMGC was selected based on several criteria, including its commitment to educate and make a difference in the cybersecurity workforce, student feedback on EC-Council courses, student and alumni engagement, and new programs and new technologies across credit or non-credit programs.
UMGC was named EC-Council’s Academic Partner of the Year in 2021. In 2022, the university was selected for the EC-Council’s 2022 Academic Circle of Excellence.
