Adelphi, Md. (June 26, 2024)— University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) and Serco Inc. North America division, a provider of defense, citizen and transport services, are partnering to widen access to higher education for the company’s more than 8,000 employees in the United States and Canada.

The alliance offers Serco’s North America workforce the opportunity to take courses through any of the university’s more than 135 online degree and certificate programs at discounted tuition rates. UMGC also saves students money through the use of mostly no to low-cost digital learning resources in lieu of publisher textbooks, making affordable content a click away and mobile ready for its busy, adult learners.

“UMGC is excited to be part of the education investment that Serco North America is making in its employees and their families,” said Blakely Pomietto, senior vice president and chief academic officer at UMGC. “The university’s online, asynchronous courses make it possible for busy working adults to advance their education while juggling full-time jobs and other responsibilities.”

Employees, spouses and dependents of Serco North America are also eligible for UMGC educational benefits, tuition discounts and waived application fee.

Expanding our tuition benefits to include a partnership with UMGC underscores our commitment to employee development, fostering growth through accessible, and high-quality education,” said Mary Buzan, director of Total Rewards at Serco. “This initiative not only enhances professional skills but also aligns with our mission to impact a better future for our workforce.”
