Adelphi, Md. (July 15, 2024)—University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) and Morris Brown College, a historically black institution in Atlanta, Ga., have announced a new partnership that guarantees admission of Morris Brown graduates into UMGC’s master’s degree programs. Morris Brown College constituents who are admitted into UMGC will have their application fee waived and may receive a tuition discount.

The guarantee extends to Morris Brown College graduates, employees as well as employees’ spouses and dependents who meet the minimum admissions requirements for the graduate program they are applying to. UMGC offers more than 40 master’s degree programs in a variety of fields, including business, cybersecurity, data analytics, healthcare administration, management, information technology and biotechnology. UMGC just launched a new M.S. in Clinical Professional Counseling.

“We are proud to partner with Morris Brown College and extend the educational ladder to its graduates who aspire to an advanced degree,” said Gregory Fowler, UMGC president and himself a Georgia native and a graduate of an HBCU (Morehouse College). “This program can help reduce the cost of a Morris Brown graduate’s master’s degree at UMGC and provide great momentum toward completion of their educational goals.”

UMGC has an enrollment of more than 90,000 students, most of whom take classes online. In the most recent full academic year, 28 percent of UMGC’s students were African American, with minority students constituting 55 percent of the total enrollment. Thirty-five percent of the master’s degrees conferred were awarded to African American students.

"We are excited to collaborate with UMGC,” said Kevin James, president of Morris Brown College. “Our aim is to offer pathways for our graduates interested in master's and doctoral programs. This partnership will create a seamless transition for our students pursuing advanced degrees."
