Adelphi, Md (Sept. 16, 2024)—University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) will host the 5th Annual FUNd Run, a week-long friendly, global competition that raises money for the university’s Veterans Assistance Fund, from Monday, Oct. 28 to Sunday, November 3. Participants run or walk any distance—wherever they are located around the world—and track their progress throughout the week and tally their total miles achieved.
To fire up the walkers/runners, UMGC is hosting a Pep Rally with music, refreshments and university swag. Organizers have also created a 3-mile course adjacent to the Pep Rally to encourage participants to cover more ground (and raise more funds!).
What: FUNd Run Pep Rally
When: Wednesday, Oct. 30, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: UMGC Administration Bldg (3501 University Blvd. East, Adelphi, Md)
UMGC Students, faculty, staff and friends can sign up for the FUNd Run (and attend the Pep Rally) as individuals or as a team by registering at umgc.edu/FUNdRun.
Background:
Participants from around the world—individuals and teams—can earn a commemorative medal and compete for top honors and bragging rights about who completed the most miles. At the conclusion of the run, participants submit their individual or team mileage. The names of the individual participant and team with the most miles completed will be listed on a plaque displayed in UMGC’s Stateside Veterans Lounge at its education center in Dorsey Station, Maryland.
More than half of UMGC’s 90,000+ students are military-affiliated, including active-duty servicemembers, Veterans, National Guard, and their spouses and dependents. The Veterans Assistance Fund is a special program that helps qualified UMGC student veterans pay for their education when federal financial aid and VA benefits are unavailable or exhausted.
