Adelphi, Md. (March 20, 2025)--The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), one of the largest and most respected associations for the management accounting profession, has endorsed the undergraduate accounting program at University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC).
IMA represents the accounting industry in endorsing institutions that meet the highest standard in accounting education, and its stamp of approval enables UMGC students to pursue and earn Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification. The professional credential attests to expertise in financial planning, analysis, control, decision support and professional ethics.
“As someone deeply passionate about advancing accounting education, I’m proud to have guided UMGC through this rigorous endorsement process,” said Brandon Schweitzer, a collegiate associate professor of accounting. “This achievement reflects our dedication to providing students with a curriculum that meets the highest standards in management accounting education, preparing them to pursue the globally recognized CMA credential.”
To qualify for endorsement by IMA, schools must meet several criteria. Their academic programs must substantially cover the content on the CMA exam, and the programs must have adequate faculty resources. Endorsed programs must also be accredited by a recognized accreditation organization. In addition, a faculty member must be designated as an IMA campus advocate.
“IMA is pleased to welcome University of Maryland Global Campus to the growing list of schools that support the CMA exam program and have achieved a consistent standard of excellence,” said Raef Lawson, IMA vice president of research and professor-in-residence. “High-quality, up-to-date educational programs that support the current needs of businesses will help future professional management accountants accomplish their career objectives and meet the competency expectations of employers.”
IMA’s globally recognized CMA program is an assessment of the advanced accounting and financial management knowledge needed on the changing business landscape.
