Congratulations on taking the first step on your academic journey at University of Maryland Global Campus. It may be a few days or weeks before you start your first class at UMGC, but planning for success begins today. Make sure you keep up with all communication from UMGC. Every to-do-list item in your MyUMGC Student Portal and email is designed to set you up for a strong start.

What's Next? Attend Virtual Orientation at UMGC

Shortly after you register for your first class, you will see an option to "Complete Virtual Orientation" in the to-do-list area of your MyUMGC Student Portal. This activity takes less than an hour to complete and will provide you with key information about services and resources to help ensure you hit the ground running at UMGC.

By attending UMGC's virtual orientation, you'll get information about the following topics and more:

  • Classroom navigation guidance and success strategies
  • Information about student support resources, such as tutoring, writing supporting, wellness services, career services, and more
  • Best practices for tuition planning, course registration, and degree/certificate completion
  • Opportunities to connect with fellow UMGC students

Prepare for the Next Session with the Course Planner Worksheet

UMGC provides an editable and downloadable planning worksheet to help you prepare for the upcoming session. Plotting out your weekly tasks and deadlines can help you manage your time effectively. You can find major course deadlines in your syllabim which are available in the Schedule of Classes or your online classroom, which opens seven days before the start of the session. You can also view dates for future terms and sessions in the UMGC academic calendar.
