New Hire Onboarding

Congratulations on your new job at University of Maryland Global Campus.

We are delighted that you are joining our talented staff and collegiate faculty. In your new position, you will play a critical role in helping UMGC achieve its mission and strategic goals.

As you prepare for your exciting journey with us, we want to provide you with important information about the next steps in the onboarding process. In the upcoming days, you will receive communications from both the HR Business Center and our IT Department. The timing of these actions will depend on the proposed start date of your new position. If your start date is a couple of months away, you may not receive information right away. We carefully time our communications for onboarding to ensure proper sequencing of events.

However, if at any point in the process you have a question, please email MyHR@umgc.edu and we will respond to your inquiry as soon as possible.

What's Next?

Here's what you can expect as you get started at UMGC.

Background Check Process

You will continue working with "HireRight" (a background screening company) on your background check which will be running in parallel to your onboarding process with UMGC.

Onboarding Portal Credentials

You will receive an email from our IT Department (provisioning@umgc.edu) with your username and password to begin your onboarding process in Workday.

New Hire Documentation Instructions

You will receive an email from our HR Business Center with onboarding instructions and due dates. This includes information related to completing the employment eligibility verification (I-9), tax withholding, direct deposit, and other essential documents. Please complete and return them by the due date provided by the HR Business Center. Pay particular attention to the instructions provided; some documents must be typed or signed with an original signature before they are scanned and uploaded into our Workday system.

Verification of Employment Eligibility

UMGC has partnered with Equifax to complete the required I-9 Verification of Employment through e-verify services. You will receive a separate email from Equifax with additional instructions.

New Hire Orientation

You will receive a "New Hire Orientation" schedule including links to join new hire sessions from the Benefits and IT teams. This session will occur on your first Monday of employment. If Monday is a holiday, the session will run on Tuesday.

Benefits Information

On your first day, you will attend the virtual "Benefits New Hire Orientation" to meet with a human resources benefits specialist to review and to discuss your employee benefits and how to enroll with them. We offer competitive health, dental, and retirement benefits, and we’re excited to share them with you.

In the meantime, you may familiarize yourself with some of UMGC’s benefits offerings and information.

If you have benefits questions prior to your first day, please contact us at benefits@umgc.edu or just bring them with you to your virtual orientation session.

System Access Credentials

Your new department’s IT liaison will share your UMGC credentials with you (timing of receipt may differ by department). These credentials are different from the ones you will receive for accessing the Workday onboarding module.

On your first day, you will be invited to attend an "IT Overview" session with information on how to access our internal systems and get acquainted with our tools and resources.

Questions?

Once again, welcome to UMGC! We look forward to having you on board and contributing to our success. If you have any questions regarding your new hire onboarding documents, please contact the HR Business Center at myhr@umgc.edu.
