  1. Purpose

    The purpose of this policy is to support centralized fundraising of the University of Maryland Global Campus ("UMGC" or "Institution") by identifying the Office of Institutional Advancement as the sole responsible office for the all university fundraising and related activities.

  2. Scope

    This policy applies to all individuals undertaking fundraising or related activities on behalf of or in the name of University of Maryland Global Campus.

  3. Policy Statements

    The University System of Maryland Policy IX-3.00 Policy on Private Fund Raising and Stewardship (June 21, 1990) gives responsibility to the President for "planning and implementing fund raising activities" at UMGC. The President has delegated this responsibility to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement with review and approval from the Senior Vice President ("SVP") for Government Affairs and Strategic Partnerships The same policy prohibits any employee of the USM from soliciting gifts and grants on behalf of an institution without the prior knowledge and approval of its president. Fundraising activities undertaken by UMGC—annual giving programs, major donor solicitation, and corporate foundation requests and public grants—shall be closely coordinated with the appropriate staff member of the Office of Institutional Advancement with the approval of the SVP. Further, no friend of UMGC has the authority to solicit for support on behalf of UMGC without the prior knowledge and consent of the President. In addition, no university employee can initiate fundraising activities on behalf of the institution for organizations other than UMGC.
