UMUC is in process of creating a transformative new business model, that sets the institution on a path to sustainable growth while fulfilling its public mission. The foundation of this new model is UMUC Ventures, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit supporting organization created in 2016 to generate new revenue streams that will serve to hold down costs for UMUC students.

On May 3, 2012, Danielle Kelly received the news that the man she loved, U.S. Navy Petty Officer Taylor Morris, was badly injured when an improvised explosive device detonated beneath him while he was serving in Afghanistan as an explosive ordnance disposal technician.
