UMGC is working with the University of Maryland College Park Department of Public Safety to participate in the Early Warning Emergency Siren Program, which will provide instant notification to the campus of imminent, dangerous conditions.
The System consists of a series of sirens to alert the community to life-threatening emergencies. When the sirens are sounded, community members should seek shelter in the nearest building and seek out information by calling 301-405-SNOW or visiting the University of Maryland website.
The resources will inform you of the nature of the emergency and direct you as to what actions should be taken in response to the emergency.
The system will be tested on the first Wednesday of each month at 11:55 a.m. The test will be a full 30-second audible test. Each Wednesday at 5 p.m. there will be a very short test that will last for no more than 5–10 seconds and will be audible only if you are very close to one of the sirens.
Information about the siren system can be obtained at UMD Police Department website. On this site, you will also be able to view a short video about the Early Warning System.
