Angel Cruz
Executive Committee co-Secretary & UMGC Asia Undergraduate Representative
I am a UMGC undergraduate in Okinawa, Japan working on my Psychology degree. I recently separated from the military in April of 2024. Outside of school and work, I spend most of if not all my time with my lovely wife and two amazing children. Walking down to the beach and having weekend BBQs is one of the best things I can do when spending time with my family here in Okinawa. Being able to raise a family here in Japan has been one of the best opportunities I have had. Before my military career, I grew up in Los Angeles, California.
Joining the Student Advisory Council is a way for me to be a voice for the students around me. I want to be someone that students can rely on when they want their voices to be heard. My goal is to be open to any feedback and actively listen to the students' needs. I want to find new ways to broaden our reach here at UMGC and bring all walks of life into our community. I will do my best to keep an open line of communication and be easily accessible to students if they ever need anything. Outside the council, I want to bring the students of UMGC closer and build a community that lasts a lifetime. I want each and every student to be able to have pride in their achievement in and out of school.
