Refund Schedule for Dropping or Withdrawing from a Course

Students who drop a course within the time frame specified in the Tuition Refund Schedule below will receive a 100 percent refund of tuition and fees, excluding any application fee paid. Students who withdraw from a course after the drop period will not receive a 100 percent tuition refund, but may be eligible to receive a tuition refund of 75 or 50 percent.

To determine your tuition refund percentage using the Tuition Refund Schedule below, use all of the following dates to calculate the total number of calendar days:

  • The class start date (calendar day 1)
    • For fully online courses, the class start date is the first day of your specific course
    • For hybrid courses, the class start date is the first day of the session
  • The date the drop or withdraw is initiated
  • All dates between the class start date and the date the drop or withdraw is initiated

Students receiving military tuition assistance who drop or withdraw from a course may face financial penalties. If you are using military Tuition Assistance, refer to the return of military Tuition Assistance chart to determine the percentage of tuition assistance that will be returned to the military. You are responsible for any amount remaining on your UMGC account after the return of military tuition assistance has been calculated.

Please note: UMGC's refund schedule was updated in February of 2020.

All students are subject to UMGC policies on withdrawal and refunds. However, students may request an exception to the withdrawal and refund policy when special circumstances prevent compliance with the published deadlines.

Return of Tuition Assistance

The Department of Defense requires UMGC to return any unearned military Tuition Assistance funds to the department based on how much a course is completed. Students using Military Tuition Assistance who drop or withdraw from a course prior to completing 60 percent of the course will be responsible for any amount remaining on your UMGC account after the return of military tuition has been calculated.
