2017 Fall Term Scholarship

This scholarship is no longer being awarded to new students. The scholarship will continue to be available to students who were awarded it when they began their studies at UMGC in fall 2017.

University of Maryland Global Campus offered the Fall Term Scholarship1 to students who began their studies at UMGC in fall 2017. The scholarship is worth up to $1,000 toward the completion of your degree. Prepare for your future by starting an undergraduate or graduate degree in an in-demand field at a respected public state university and a leader in online education.

How to Earn the Fall Term Scholarship

You will be automatically considered for the Fall Term Scholarship if you meet the eligibility criteria,2 and we will contact you if you are selected to receive the scholarship.

You can get started on your degree at UMGC in three easy steps:

  1. Complete the UMGC application for admission.3
  2. Have any prior school(s) you have attended send official transcripts to directly to UMGC.
  3. Talk with an admissions advisor if you need help selecting a program or courses.

Scholarship Details

Whether you're an undergraduate student or graduate student residing in Maryland or living out of state, the Fall Term Scholarship is awarded in increments based on the number of credits you complete. Please note: You must be enrolled in order for scholarship funding to be disbursed to your account.

Undergraduate

Undergraduate scholarship funding is applied in the following increments:

  1. After you successfully complete your first term for credit at UMGC
  2. The term after you earn your 34th credit
  3. The term after you earn your 68th credit

If your transfer credit plus credits earned during your first term at UMGC amount to 33 or more credits, you will receive an award amount that aligns with the total number of transfer credits and first term credits. The following charts provide examples of how transfer credit and credit loads affect the disbursement of scholarship funds for undergraduate students:

These scenarios are just three examples of possible outcomes. Your award amounts and the terms in which they are awarded will vary depending on the number of credits your transfer and the number of credits you earn per term.

Graduate

Graduate scholarship funding is applied in the following increments:

  1. After you successfully complete your first term for credit at UMGC
  2. The term after you earn your 13th credit
  3. The term after you earn your 25th credit

If your transfer credit plus credits earned during your first term at UMGC amount to 12 or more credits, you will receive an award amount that aligns with the total number of transfer credits and first term credits. The following chart provides an example of how transfer credit and credit loads affect the disbursement of scholarship funds for graduate students:

Please Note: Withdrawal from all courses in a term in which the Fall Term Scholarship applies will result in the scholarship being canceled for that term. Your balance will be recalculated, and you will be responsible for any outstanding amounts. You will receive the scholarship in the next term in which you are eligible and enroll.

Eligibility Criteria for the Fall Term Scholarship

Check to see if you meet the eligibility criteria for the Fall Term Scholarship.

  • You must meet the admissions requirements of the university.
  • You must be admitted as a new degree-seeking student pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree and begin your studies in the fall of 2017. Certificate, non-degree-seeking, and doctoral students are not eligible.
  • You must be paying the stateside in-state or out-of-state tuition rate. The scholarship is not available to students paying the military rate or to students in the Asian division or European division.
  • For the undergraduate scholarship, you must have successfully completed at least 30 college credits4 at an accredited university or community college and earned at least a 2.0 GPA. Equivalent degrees from other accredited institutions may be considered on a case-by-case basis. You must also maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better at UMGC.
  • For the graduate scholarship, you must have successfully completed your bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university and earned at least a 2.0 GPA. Equivalent degrees from other accredited institutions may be considered on a case-by-case basis. You must also maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better at UMGC.

If you are a current UMGC student and have not previously been awarded this scholarship, you are not eligible, but you may qualify for other scholarships.

 

1 The Fall Term Scholarship cannot be combined with the Maryland Community College Completion Scholarship, the Pennsylvania Completion Scholarship, or any other UMGC tuition discount except for the FED Program discount.
2 If you did not indicate on your application that you had completed at least 30 college credits before applying to UMGC and subsequently determine that you had met that eligibility requirement, you must contact an advisor to have your scholarship eligibility and award amount evaluated. This only applies to undergraduate students.
3 If you provide inaccurate or fraudulent information or documentation to UMGC during the admissions process, you may be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the university's Code of Student Conduct. If you are found to be in violation of the Code of Student Conduct, your eligibility for scholarships may be terminated, and you will be charged the standard UMGC application fee, tuition, and fees retroactively and for the remainder of your enrollment based on the appropriate tuition category.

4 While you are required to have completed at least 30 college credits, please remember that you may not be able to transfer all of those credits into your UMGC degree program. The number of your credits that will transfer and be applied toward your degree will be based on a formal transcript evaluation. This only applies to undergraduate students.
